Traffic Violations

Traffic citations issued in Grant County may be filed in either Grant County Justice Court or Grant County Circuit Court. The citation you received will list the court you are to appear in. Both courts are located on the top floor of the Grant County Courthouse.

The Defendant’s Appearance

A defendant who has been issued a traffic citation must either appear in person at the time indicated on the summons, or appear in writing by the time indicated on the summons. Written submissions must be received at the court by the time indicated on the summons.

If you do not appear on or before your first appearance date, by mail or in person, the court may enter a default judgment against you.

Mandatory personal appearance may be required either by statute, or by the court in some instances.
